A military helicopter carrying Kaduna State governor,
Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa and the immediate past National Security Adviser,
General Owoeye Azazi
plus four other prominent governmment officials on board crashed this afternoon in the creeks of Ogbia.
The helicopter came down in Bayelsa state, the oil rich southern delta region.
An aide to Governor Patrick Yakowa who choosed to be "unidentified" confirmed the death.
The helicopter was suspected to be travelling to bayelsa, President Goodluck Jonathan's home state, where several other high-profile politicians are there for a funeral this weekend.
Nigeria has suffered poor, at least, many plane crashes and has poor record of plane safety, like other several african countries.
The president was not at bayelsa at the time of the crash, a source said.
The last plane crash before this was that of march in the central city of Jos, involving Nigeria's deputy police chief and three other officers who were both confirmed killed.
